After leadership flop, Johnson angling to stay on as caretaker, despite party's opposition

(Lapresse) Boris Johnson resigns. The British prime minister has decided to leave the leadership of the Conservative party after 53 members of the executive resigned within two days. The avalanche of resignations came in the wake of the scandal engulfing Chris Pincher, former deputy coordinator of Conservative MPs, who was accused of sexual harassment. Johnson had refused to resign, although the request had also come from members of his own party. Johnson will address the country later today. He will, however, remain in office until the fall. In the summer, in fact, the Tories will choose his successor, and by the fall a new British premier should be named.
