Italian soccer chief executive Luigi De Siervo speaks on the sidelines of "Calcio is back" event in New York
Italy’s premier soccer league, the Lega Serie A, landed in the United States on Tuesday night in grand style, launching a new “historic phase” for Italian football, with an inaugural event called “Calcio is back,” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
“Italian football was very important until the 2000s, then it lost position because it looked more inward than abroad. The time has come to return to dialogue with all those who are passionate about this sport,” said Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Lega Serie A.
