Accounts belonging to users under the age of 18 are private by default, and we are one of the few platforms where younger teenagers cannot use direct messaging or see their own content featured on the ‘For You’ page. Protecting children online is a goal we share, and we remain committed to continuously improving the measures we take to protect them. “We will examine these preliminary findings and continue to engage constructively with the Commission,” said a TikTok spokesperson regarding the European Commission’s preliminary findings concerning the company. According to the Commission’s findings, children’s accounts on the platform do not meet the safety standards set out in the Digital Services Act (DSA), the EU regulation on digital services and online platforms.
