Milan, 29 April (LaPresse) – “We do not agree with these preliminary findings. We are clear that Instagram and Facebook are intended for people aged 13 and over, and we have measures in place to detect and remove the accounts of anyone under that age.” This was stated by a spokesperson for Meta in response to the EU Commission’s claim that Meta’s Instagram and Facebook are in breach of the Digital Services Act (DSA) for failing to adequately identify, assess and mitigate the risks arising from access to their services by children under the age of 13. ‘We continue to invest in technologies to identify and remove users who do not meet the minimum age requirement, and next week we will share further information on new tools currently being rolled out. Age verification is an industry-wide challenge that requires an industry-wide solution; we will continue to engage constructively with the European Commission on this important issue,’ the Meta spokesperson further emphasised.
