Rome, 23 Oct. (LaPresse) – Milan’s French goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, has taken responsibility for putting his hand to an opponent’s face, an incident that left his team down to 10 men in the Europa League clash against Bournemouth after less than half an hour. The goalkeeper posted a message on his social media accounts apologising: “My gesture was not intentional. Like all goalkeepers, and as in every match, I wanted to create space in my penalty area. Unfortunately, it gave the wrong impression, especially amongst the young spectators watching us. The club, the staff and my teammates know what sort of person I am and what sort of captain I am. They know my intentions, and letting them down is never part of that. As for the rest, we’re used to the interpretations made by certain people and certain media outlets.”
