Genoa, Oct. 22 (LaPresse) – Luca D’Angelo is the new head coach of Sampdoria. The Ligurian club announced this in a statement. “Born in Pescara on July 26, 1971, D’Angelo joins the Blucerchiati with a professional track record combining experience, expertise and in-depth knowledge of Italian football, particularly Serie B. After a playing career as a defender, he embarked on a coaching career, gaining significant experience at the helm of Pisa and Spezia and standing out for his ability to build well-organised, competitive teams with a clear playing identity,” the Blucerchiati club said in its statement. “His time at Pisa represented one of the most important stages of his career. In charge of the Tuscan Nerazzurri, D’Angelo secured promotion to Serie B in 2019 and reached the promotion playoff final for Serie A in the 2021/22 season. He also achieved this objective with Spezia in the 2024/25 season. His arrival in Genoa marks a new stage in the career of the Abruzzo-born coach, shaped by daily work, knowledge of the dynamics of Italy’s second division and the determination to make his teams protagonists. As head coach of the first team, D’Angelo will put his experience and expertise at the service of a project aimed at restoring consistency, identity and results.” Assistant coach Luca Mora, technical collaborator Giuseppe Leonetti and fitness coaches Marco Greco and Stefano Cappelli will join the current staff. Sampdoria “welcomes Luca D’Angelo and his staff and wishes them every success in their work with the team,” the Ligurian club concluded.
