(LaPresse) – Former England international Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide following a road accident on a motorway, police have reported. The charges relate to an incident on 28 May, when a Lamborghini was involved in a ‘single-vehicle collision’ on the M3 in the south of England, according to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police. Sterling, 31, is charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) for unlawful inhalation, and refusing to take a breathalyser test, police said, adding that no other vehicles were involved in the incident and no one was injured. Sterling is due to appear in a magistrates’ court on 15 September for a hearing. Sterling is currently without a club. He has played for several top English clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, and last season played for Feyenoord on a short-term contract.
