Rome, 24 Aug. (LaPresse) – American Coco Gauff defeated her compatriot Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday to claim her second women’s title at the Cincinnati Open. The last time two American players faced each other in the final at Cincinnati was in 1970, when Rosie Casals defeated Nancy Richey. Pegula’s best result at Cincinnati came in 2024, when she lost in the final to Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff, who won the title in 2023 against Karolina Muchova, raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set on Sunday before closing it out 6-2. Pegula managed to fight back to 5-4 in the second set before Gauff sealed the match.
