Rome, Aug. 17 (LaPresse) – A new chapter in the season of the Italian women’s volleyball team is about to begin. Italy, the reigning Olympic and world champions, is ready to leave for the 2026 European Championships, the last major event of the summer. The continental tournament, scheduled from Aug. 21 to Sept. 6, will be hosted by four countries (Turkey, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Sweden), with Julio Velasco’s national team placed in Pool D in Gothenburg. The Azzurre will leave for Sweden tomorrow morning and will hold their first training session in the afternoon at Scandinavium, the venue that will host all the matches in the group. The debut is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. against Croatia. Italy arrives at the European Championships after winning the bronze medal at the 2026 Volleyball Nations League and completing an important preparation phase, which began with the training camp in Cavalese and continued in Poland with the Agata Mróz-Olszewska Memorial, won by the Azzurre. At the end of this process, head coach Julio Velasco finalized the squad that will compete in the continental tournament. As is known, Loveth Omoruyi will not be among the 14, having been ruled out by the injury she sustained during the tournament in Poland. These are the 14 Azzurre called up for the European Championships: Setters: 3. Carlotta Cambi, 8. Alessia Orro. Outside hitters: 16. Stella Nervini, 17. Myriam Sylla, 22. Gaia Giovannini, 24.
