Milan, 17 Aug. (LaPresse) – “It was an absolutely incredible experience; I’m completely satisfied and delighted with the results – I’ve achieved exactly what I set out to do.” These were the first words from champion Sara Curtis, who landed in Milan this evening on her return from the European Championships in Paris, where she won gold in the 50-metre backstroke and set a world record in the process. “That record was the greatest achievement; I’d wanted it so much and I’m glad it’s come now.” When asked to comment on comparisons with ‘La Divina’ Federica Pellegrini, Curtis replied with a smile: “It’s a big comparison; she is the icon of this sport. I hope to carve out my own path, but it’s a comparison that does me credit.” Finally, a comment on the message she received from Jannik Sinner: “He wrote to me, ‘well done and congratulations’; I’m very pleased.”
