Rome, Aug. 16 (LaPresse) – At the European Athletics Championships, Finland’s Alisa Vainio won the women’s marathon in 2:26:26, leading the race alone from the very first meter. Silver went to Anna Vindics-Toth (Hungary), bronze to Abbie Donnelly (Great Britain). The Italian runners finished sixth with Rebecca Lonedo (2:27:55), seventh with Sofia Yaremchuk (2:28:02) and, thanks to Giovanna Epis’s 21st-place finish, won the silver medal for Italy in the team classification (which takes into account the sum of all participants’ times by nationality). Gold went to Great Britain.
