Rome, 14 Aug. (LaPresse) – Gianmarco Tamberi won gold and Matteo Sioli took bronze in the high jump at the European Athletics Championships, currently taking place in Birmingham. Tamberi won with a jump of 2.32 metres, ahead of the Ukrainian favourite Doroshchuk (who made three failed attempts at 2.32 after a flawless performance in which he led from start to finish) and his Italian teammate Matteo Sioli, who picked up an injury on his first attempt at 2.30 metres and was forced to settle for bronze. “It’s a special evening; it’s Camilla’s birthday today – her first year of life. She was the one who gave me the strength to bounce back after Paris. She was the reason I carried on, the reason I got back into the game,” said Tamberi after the competition.
