Roma, Aug. 13 (LaPresse) – At the European Swimming Championships, Thomas Ceccon has reached the final of the 50m backstroke. In the second semifinal, the Italian finished fifth in 24″45, a time sufficient to continue his European campaign. Michele Lamberti finished sixth in 24″57 and failed to qualify for the final. “Very good, I’m four hundredths off my record, this was the time needed to get through and I wasn’t sure I could swim it,” Ceccon said after the race. “I tried to swim my race. I’m in the final by two hundredths. I’ll try again tomorrow, then I don’t know if the podium is within reach, but setting the Italian record would be nice.”
