The 25-year-old from Schio, who holds the Italian record (1’55”71) – a member of Fiamme Oro and Leosport, and coached by Alberto Burlina at the national training centre in Verona – finished thirteenth in 1’56”99. Daniele Del Signore (Fiamme Gialle/CC Aniene) was eliminated, finishing twenty-third in 1’58”71. Leading the field is the formidable Frenchman Nathan Muratory with the junior world record of 1’54‘87, thirty-seven hundredths of a second faster than the 1’55’14 set by Russia’s Kliment Kolesnikov in 2017.
