Rome, 7 Aug. (LaPresse) – “We express our support for the leadership shown over the last 10 years, which has been underpinned by the development of football worldwide and institutional strength based on a clear, stable and transparent model of governance.” So stated the Argentine Football Association (AFA) in an open letter addressed to Gianni Infantino, in which it backs the current FIFA president. “In this regard, with reference to recent events in the public domain, we must acknowledge the Administration’s decision to withdraw a project which, within the football family and from the very outset, has generated far more uncertainty than certainty. It is therefore appropriate to highlight the acknowledgement of the mistakes made during that process and the apologies expressed in the heartfelt message sent to the 211 federations affiliated to FIFA. Prioritising governance standards is a fundamental pillar for strengthening good relations between FIFA, its affiliated federations and the confederations,” adds the AFA.
