(LaPresse) – A week after reaching the quarter-finals in Washington, Rafa Jodar has once again beaten Lorenzo Musetti at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, the Canadian Masters 1000 tournament taking place this year in Montreal. The Spaniard, who broke into the Top 15 thanks to his run to the final of the ATP 500 in the US, defeated the player from Carrara (ranked 13th in the ATP) 6-4, 6-3 to qualify for the last 16 for the third Masters 1000 tournament in a row. He is the second teenager to reach this stage of the Canadian Masters 1000 this decade, following Learner Tien last year. To reach his third consecutive quarter-final in a 1000-series event, he will have to beat Jiri Lehecka, the world number 12, who is the first Czech player since Tomas Berdych (2013–14) to reach the last 16 in the tournament for two years running. The Spaniard has secured his third victory against a Top 20 player and remains in contention for a feat never before achieved by anyone, not even legends such as Federer, Nadal or Djokovic: qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in his first season on the main tour.
