Following his victory in Bordeaux, the Soudal Quick-Step rider has also claimed victory in the eighth stage of the Tour de France, the 180.4 km Perigueux–Bergerac stage. The Belgian beat Eritrean Biniam Girmay (NSN Cycling Team) and Dutchman Olav Kooij (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) in the sprint. Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin Premier Tech) finished fourth. There were no issues for the yellow jersey holder Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), who finished today’s stage comfortably in the peloton and retained his lead in the general classification ahead of Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma Lease a Bike), who remains 2’42” behind the Slovenian.
