Rome, 9 June (LaPresse) – ‘I immediately saw myself in Flavio: the drive, the fight, the tough-guy face on court and a heart of gold off it. A real fighter, just like me.’ So said former tennis player Fabio Fognini, manager of Roland Garros finalist Flavio Cobolli, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. ‘Flavio is less hot-headed than me, but we have a lot in common. Now that he’s climbed to number 10, even in the rankings. His success is a victory for us too, as we’ve built him up and helped him as best we could,’ added the Ligurian, who has known the Roman since he was a minor. ‘How far can he go? A long way. He’s young, he can improve a lot. Sinner and Alcaraz are on another level, Zverev is still superior, but there’s room below them: Djokovic is my age, he hardly plays anymore, and Flavio has already beaten Auger-Aliassime. The others aren’t unbeatable,’ Fognini emphasised.
