Turin, 5 June (LaPresse) – Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have been knocked out in the men’s doubles semi-finals at Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of 2026 (total prize money €61,723,000) on the clay courts of Paris. The Italian pair, seeded fifth (ranked 11th and 9th respectively in the doubles rankings), champions at the Foro Italico (their tenth career title as a pair) three weeks ago and second in the Race to Turin, lost 7-6 (4) 6-4, in a match lasting one hour and 53 minutes, to Spaniard Marcel Granollers and Argentine Horacio Zeballos (No. 3 and No. 2 in doubles), the top seeds and fourth in the Race, who were playing their fifth consecutive semi-final in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The match was partly affected by a physical problem suffered by Bolelli midway through the first set. Granollers/Zeballos, the defending champions in Paris, are aiming to become the first pair to win the men’s doubles title for two consecutive years since the Germans Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies (2019–2020): on Saturday they will contest the trophy against the pairing of Finland’s Harri Heliovaara and Britain’s Henry Patten (both No. 4 in the doubles rankings), the second seeds but top of the Race to Turin, who on Thursday in the semi-finals defeated the French pair Quentin Halys and Pierre-Hugues Herbert (ranked 87th and 57th respectively), 19th in the Race, 6-3, 6-4.
