Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – Following in his father’s footsteps, top scorer at last year’s Under-17 European Championship, and a rising star in Germany with Borussia Dortmund: Samuele Inàcio is one of the 23 players called up by head coach Silvio Baldini for these two June friendlies. Born in 2008, having just turned 18 less than a month ago, the Bergamo-born youngster—son of former Napoli and Atalanta player Joao Batista Inàcio, known as Pià—scored his first goal among the big boys in the Bundesliga under the “yellow wall” of the Westfalenstadion. He is currently in Coverciano and “it’s a huge source of pride: all the boys, all the kids dream of playing in this jersey. For me, it’s a privilege,” Samuele Inàcio emphasizes with conviction and a touch of emotion in front of the cameras of Vivo Azzurro TV, in an interview available today on the Federation’s OTT platform (click here to watch it). “I was at home when the call-up was announced, and as soon as I saw my name, it was an incredible moment… I thought to myself: I did it! Because, after all, we’re talking about the senior national team…” he confides, still almost in disbelief over the call-up. “Coming here with so many young guys—all young—is a great thing for Italy, in my view. And then there’s Gigio… an idol for all of us. The first training session went very well: there’s quality here.” What made you decide to take on such a big challenge outside of Italy? “Wanting to try new challenges and, of course, Borussia’s project, which immediately piqued my interest.” And as a child, what was your biggest dream? “To get here, where I am now, because so many champions have passed through here. I’d like to take this jersey to the top, too…”
