Rome, 20 May (LaPresse) – “I don’t think it’s possible to reach 100% of your potential at the age of 24. I aim to reach it in the coming years. My best self? A player with a great serve, aggressive, but also clear-headed and capable of reading every situation on the court. The future, however, I cannot predict.” So said Jannik Sinner in an interview with the French newspaper ‘L’Equipe’ ahead of Roland Garros. “If I’m perceived as a player lacking in emotion, it’s because I remain totally focused on what I have to do. My goal is always to be as precise as possible, choosing the best solution at the right moment: to achieve this, you need great physical preparation and mental strength. And that’s exactly what I work on every day,” he added. Sinner reflects on last year’s final defeat in Paris against Carlos Alcaraz. “It wasn’t easy to put it behind me, but I’ve learnt important lessons from that experience. I believe the success that followed shortly afterwards at Wimbledon is also linked to my ability to look ahead quickly, both in defeats and in victories. The suspension? The hardest period was the one before that, when I couldn’t confide in anyone and felt restricted. But I’m convinced that everything happens for a reason: this experience has made me stronger as a person and helped me understand who my real friends are, the ones I can count on.”
