Rome, 17 May (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner has won the Rome International, becoming the first Italian to do so 50 years after Adriano Panatta’s victory in 1976. The world number one defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud in two sets, 6-4, 6-4, in one hour and 45 minutes. For Sinner, this is the tenth Masters title of his career and completes the set of all nine “1000” events on the circuit, a feat achieved only by Novak Djokovic; however, at 24 years and 8 months, he is the youngest to complete the feat compared to the Serbian. By reaching his sixth consecutive 1000 final (the record is held by Djokovic with seven between Rome 2015 and Miami 2016), his fifth of the year (matching Nadal in 2011), the Italian has now won six Masters titles in a row (since Paris-Nanterre in November), equalling another of Rafa’s records: in 2010, he was the only player to triumph in all the season’s clay-court 1000s. With this victory, he has now won 34 matches in a row, losing only three sets.
