Rome, 16 May (LaPresse) – The women’s national team repeated their success at the PalaIgor in Novara and bid farewell to Piedmont by beating France once again, following their victory in Biella, with a score of 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-18). It was a fine two days of volleyball sponsored by BPER, providing an opportunity for several players to make their debut in the senior national team, coached by Julio Velasco. This week’s training camp has thus come to an end for the Azzurre, who have been training intensively at the Pavesi Federal Centre ahead of the first week of the VNL in Brazil, where they will compete in Week 1 of the Volleyball Nations League in Brasília, the first major event of the national teams’ season. In the victory over France, made all the more special by a fine crowd at the PalaIgor, the skill of this very young Italian side was on display, as they remained focused and effective in attack throughout. Nervini and Omoruyi were the standout performers today, with 12 points each, and Loveth Omoruyi was named MVP of the evening. Tomorrow the squad will disband and everyone will have a few days’ rest, before reconvening on 18 May at the Pavesi Federal Centre in Milan ahead of the final friendly tournament before the VNL kicks off: the AIA AeQuilibrium Cup Women Elite, scheduled to take place in Genoa from 22 to 24 May.
