Milan, 12 May (LaPresse) – “The Serie A League, as the body delegated by the FIGC to organise the relevant championship, has the primary and unalterable duty to safeguard the integrity of the championship itself, which is founded on the simultaneous staging of matches on the final two matchdays. This is a fundamental principle from which the Serie A League certainly cannot deviate, in order to guarantee the smooth running of the competition. The decision by the Prefect of Rome, who has unilaterally postponed the Rome derby to Monday 18 May at 8.45 pm, not only stands in open and incomprehensible contradiction to his own statement – made at the start of the season – that the derby would not be played at night, but also fails to take into account that the postponement of the Roma v Lazio match, on a matchday subject to the mandatory simultaneous kick-off rule, inevitably leads to the postponement of four other matches, which realistically involve 300,000 fans, who will suffer the foreseeable logistical and economic consequences of the decision taken”. This is stated in a lengthy note from the Serie A League following the decision by the Prefect of Rome to move the Rome derby from Sunday 17 May at 12.30 pm to Monday 18 at 8.45 pm, to avoid a clash with the final of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico.
