Rome, 1 May (LaPresse) – “The allegations levelled against my client relate to the Salernitana v Modena match. I would like to make it clear that if the investigators had looked into the case in greater depth, they would know that the Serie A and Serie B control rooms are separate; therefore, Gervasoni cannot have had any influence whatsoever on the VAR decision-making process, as he was in the Serie A control room, i.e. on the other side.” This was stated on Radio CRC by Michele Ducci, the lawyer representing Andrea Gervasoni, who is under investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office for complicity in sports fraud as part of the refereeing inquiry that also led to the investigation and self-suspension of Gianluca Rocchi, now a former VAR coordinator. “Moreover, that incident took place within 15 seconds, so in such a short space of time that Gervasoni could not have influenced the decisions of the VAR room or the match referee in any way. If there had been additional witnesses to hear, it would have been interesting to hear what they had to say, as nothing emerges from the video analysis,” he added. “There has been no investigation regarding the Inter-Roma case. Public Prosecutor Ascione told me he had read the news about the match in Milan in the newspapers. To date, however, there is no evidence confirming my client’s involvement in the VAR room in Lissone. We met with Public Prosecutor Ascione and spent four hours talking about football and showing him the footage we have. From what he said, we understood that the investigation will not be concluded any time soon. In fact, as Gianluca Rocchi himself has been notified, an extension has been granted to allow the investigation to continue,” he concluded.
