Liverpool (England), 1 May (LaPresse/AP) – Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will return from injury in time for a fitting farewell, but he will not be ready for next Sunday’s match against Manchester United. The Egyptian forward, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, picked up a hamstring injury during Saturday’s win against Crystal Palace. “He usually recovers quicker than other players after a minor injury – because it is a minor injury – so we expect him to be available again towards the end of the season, but not for Sunday,” said Liverpool manager Arne Slot. ‘It’s a huge relief that his injury is minor, so he’ll be able to play for us and take part in the World Cup. If there’s one player who deserves a grand send-off, it’s definitely Mohamed,’ he added. Salah announced at the end of March that he would be leaving the club a year earlier than planned. This is his ninth season at Anfield. The 33-year-old Salah has had a disappointing season, culminating in a public row with Slot. He has scored just seven goals in the Premier League, having been the top scorer last season with 29 goals. Liverpool still have four games left to play this season, which will conclude on 24 May with an away match at Anfield against Brentford. Slot’s side are three points behind Manchester United, who sit third in the table, with both teams in the running for a Champions League spot. Egypt are in World Cup Group G and will make their debut against Belgium on 15 June, before facing New Zealand and Iran. Egypt have never won a World Cup match in their three appearances. Their last outing was at the 2018 tournament in Russia, where Salah was hampered by a shoulder injury sustained in the Champions League final a few weeks earlier, which Liverpool lost to Real Madrid.
