Madrid (Spain), 21 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘In Rome, my aim is to entertain the crowd and have fun myself, to try and engage with the spectators and use their support as extra motivation rather than a source of stress.’ This was stated by tennis player Lorenzo Musetti on the sidelines of the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards held in Madrid. Musetti said he hopes Carlos Alcaraz, who is recovering from an injury to his right wrist, will also be on court at the Internazionali. ‘We’ll have to see what kind of physical condition he’s in,’ he said. ‘I wish him all the best because it’s always great to see this rivalry with Jannik, and obviously I like trying to compete with the best, so I hope he’ll be there too,’ he commented, adding that Sinner is the “favourite” in Rome given the ‘incredible results’ he’s achieved in recent months. Musetti said he was satisfied with the tournament that has just concluded in Barcelona and said he would approach the Madrid Masters 1000, where he could face Sinner in the semi-finals, “with plenty of motivation” and “a real desire to do well”. Commenting on Flavio Cobolli’s results, Musetti remarked that he is “on the right track”. ‘Flavio,’ he said, ‘is doing very well; we’re close friends, we’ve known each other for a long time and I know how hard he’s working and how much he’s improved, so I wish him all the best.’
