Miami (Florida, USA), 18 March (LaPresse) – Venezuela has won the World Baseball Classic for the first time, beating the United States 3–2 thanks to Eugenio Suárez’s decisive double in the ninth inning. Maikel García was named the tournament’s MVP. For the United States, this marks the second consecutive final defeat in baseball’s premier international event; their last title dates back to 2017. Venezuela is the second Latin American nation to win the WBC, following the Dominican Republic in 2013. The United States claimed the title in 2017 and lost the 2023 final to Japan, three-time champions.
