Rome, 22 October (LaPresse) – The Oklahoma City Thunder celebrated with a victory at the NBA championship ring ceremony held before the opening game of the new season. The hosts defeated the Houston Rockets 125-124 after two overtime periods. Two free throws by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 2.3 seconds left were decisive. Last season’s MVP finished with 35 points, while Sengun’s 39 points were not enough for the Texans. In the other match played overnight, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, without Lebron James who was sidelined with sciatica, 119-109. Jimmy Butler scored 31 points while Stephen Curry added 23. Luka Doncic’s 43 points were useless for the Lakers.
