Tennis: ATP Shanghai, bookies see Sinner as unrivaled for title

Rome, Oct. 3 (LaPresse) – Winning the Shanghai Masters 1000 to add another trophy to his collection and to close in on Carlos Alcaraz in the race for the top ranking are Jannik Sinner’s objectives. After triumphing in Beijing, and with the Spaniard absent from the draw, Sinner is aiming for victory. His campaign begins against German Daniel Altmaier, who won their last encounter in 2023 at Roland Garros.

This time, however, a rematch is in the air. According to Agipronews, William Hill offers 1.01 for an Italian win, while Sisal prices Altmaier’s victory at 15. In set betting, a 2-0 Sinner win leads at 1.14, followed by 2-1 at 5.75. An Altmaier win in two or three sets is offered at 30.

On Saturday morning, October 4, in Italian time, Lorenzo Musetti will also take the court. After retiring in Beijing due to physical issues, he will seek valuable points to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. Seeded eighth in Shanghai, Musetti faces Argentine Francisco Comesana, whom he previously defeated at Wimbledon 2024 in their only meeting. A repeat of victory is considered the most likely outcome at 1.33, versus 3.20 for his opponent.

Looking at the title, Jannik Sinner appears unrivaled: a repeat victory for the Italian, the defending champion, pays 1.65 times the stake. His closest challengers are much further back: second is German Alexander Zverev at 9, followed at 12 by the duo of American Taylor Fritz and Serbian Novak Djokovic. Among the other Italians, Musetti’s title is priced at 50, and Flavio Cobolli or Matteo Arnaldi at 100.
