F1, Spanish GP: New Pirelli Podium Cap and harder tyres

Turin, May 27 (LaPresse) – The second triple-header of the season concludes at another classic Formula 1 circuit: the Barcelona-Catalunya track, host of the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991. It takes place on one of the most technically complete circuits. This year, the Spanish round will see the introduction of a new FIA technical directive concerning wing flexibility, which some experts believe could affect car performance.

On the Spanish Grand Prix podium, drivers will wear a special edition of the classic Pirelli Podium Cap, designed by Denis Dekovic. The cap is orange and inspired by the sunny landscapes of the Catalan region. It is the sixth version of the Podium Cap presented this year by Pirelli Design and is already available on the dedicated e-commerce platform.

As challenging as the track is for cars, it is equally demanding for tyres. After two consecutive races using the softest compound trio of the 2025 range, Pirelli, as per tradition, has selected the hardest set for this event: C1 as Hard, C2 as Medium, and C3 as Soft. These three compounds have been revised compared to last year—especially the C2—to ensure more balanced performance gaps between them. This could lead teams to favor Medium and Soft during the race.

Tyre stress levels are medium to high due to several fast corners, such as Turn 3 and the final two right-handers. The most stressed corner is the front left, as the track features more right-hand turns. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya remains a key testing ground for Pirelli, which has chosen this venue for its third development session for next season's tyre range. Testing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, and Wednesday, June 4, with Mercedes running on both days, Racing Bulls on Tuesday, and Red Bull on Wednesday.
