The seventh hearing in Khimki, Russia, for American basketball player Brittney Griner, arrested last February and on trial for possession of cannabis. The WNBA star was placed in custody upon arrival in Russia, where she was scheduled to play for Umcc Yekaterinburg: she pleaded guilty to carrying electronic cigarette cartridges containing cannabis oil in her suitcase and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Russian judges authorized Griner’s remand until next December 20. Prior to this hearing, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken proposed a prisoner exchange to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in an effort to free Griner and Paul Whelan, a U.S. citizen detained in Moscow for espionage.
