Rome, 8 Nov. (LaPresse) – “This gathering, undertaken in a genuine spirit of understanding, is a source of enrichment for pluralistic and inclusive societies, based on mutual respect, and fosters civil coexistence.” This was emphasised by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a statement on the day of the ‘Festival of Lights’. “On the occasion of Diwali, I am delighted to extend my best wishes for peace, prosperity and serenity to the Hindu community in our country. The ‘Festival of Lights’ celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and of knowledge over ignorance; it conveys a universal message, calling on us to shun hatred and oppression, and to seek harmony through dialogue, particularly amongst communities of different cultures and religious beliefs.” “In an era marked by growing tensions and forces that undermine peaceful relations between peoples,” the President emphasised, “Diwali’s call to cultivate ideals of hope, sharing and solidarity – in line with the fundamental values guaranteed by our Constitution – helps to inspire society as a whole.” “With these sentiments, I once again extend my congratulations to all those celebrating this joyous occasion,” he concludes.
