Milan, 24 Oct. (LaPresse) – “It is clear that I am the one with the most to lose, and therefore I am putting my position at risk. I am the Senate group leader and secretary of the Lombard League. It would have been much easier for me to toe the line and perhaps, so to speak, secure another term in office. Instead, I believe that, for the good of the League, it was necessary to put one’s own position at risk, which is certainly what I am doing today, in an effort to put forward suggestions and proposals that fully reflect the national League’s line, while obviously maintaining strong territorial identities. Because if we lose our identity and our role as a union representing local communities, we risk no longer being understood”. This is what Massimiliano Romeo, the League’s Senate group leader and secretary of the Lombard League, said on the sidelines of the Carroccio party congress in Milan. “I am not worried about my position. What worries me most is that, in the next elections, the League could see its support decline and consequently lose a substantial part of its parliamentary representation, which would significantly reduce the League’s weight within Parliament”, Romeo added.
