Milan, 22 Oct. (LaPresse) – “If we were the PD, perhaps” a minority within the party might ask for places on the candidate lists, “but we aren’t: there will never be factions within the Lega. For us, what matters is what the elected secretary says.” So said Claudio Durigon, Under-Secretary for Labour, in an interview with the *Corriere della Sera* ahead of the start of the Lega Congress. Durigon said he was surprised by Massimo Garavaglia’s candidacy for the Congress: “We thought there would be other candidates; in fact, we deliberately lowered the threshold for the required signatures – we wanted someone to stand. Garavaglia has, moreover, said he will be proactive: that’s excellent. We wanted another voice, so let’s listen to Massimo Garavaglia’s voice.” “The Lega’s history has shown that with those policies, it gains greater support from voters,” added Durigon, referring to Garavaglia’s own comments that the Lega leans too far to the right. “In the first government, in 20218, with our security policies and the flat tax, we reached 34 per cent. Other decisions fared less well, such as our support for the Draghi government. But even that decision was shared by the secretary with everyone. And I believe that, once the idle chatter is over, the great results will return.”
