Rome, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – “What hardship are we talking about? They want designer and luxury items. They don’t want bread. When there was social hardship, people stormed bakeries; today they want Rolexes and storm the shops in the Quadrilatero.” Senate President Ignazio La Russa said this in an interview with Il Giornale, commenting on the violence during street demonstrations in recent days. “The acts of vandalism and proletarian expropriations when I was young,” La Russa recalls, “were ideological in nature. Today they are consumer-driven, and immigrants or children of immigrants are the main protagonists. There is a convergence between groups of young immigrants, the so-called ‘maranza’, social centers and the radical left.”
