Milan, Oct. 16 (LaPresse) – “I have great respect for Gianni Letta. He is an extraordinary person. There is something many people don’t know: he turned down the chance to become president of the Republic. When Mattarella was re-elected, Meloni had offered him the position. He would have won hands down. But he didn’t do it because he didn’t want to upset Berlusconi. That says a lot about his faithfulness and loyalty.” Mfe chairman Fedele Confalonieri said this in an interview with ‘La Stampa’. Speaking about the Cavaliere, he added: “Silvio changed my life. Without me, he would still have been Berlusconi, but who knows what would have become of me…”. He continued: “I disagreed with his decision to enter politics because I didn’t think he would succeed. I remember that, when Bettino Craxi was about to leave for Tunisia, having more or less given up, he told me that Silvio would not get more than 8%, a result that would only have caused us harm. Instead, he did something Napoleonic: in three months, he won more than 21%”. Will Marina Berlusconi enter politics sooner or later? “Marina likes politics, but no, I don’t think she will. Pier Silvio talks about politics at television schedule presentations, but that’s where it ends,” Confalonieri stressed. Speaking about Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, he said: “I like her, she’s good. The only thing is that she’s too confrontational with the opposition. She argues about everything, but who cares, I say, you’re the prime minister! And then, unlike many other politicians, especially in the past, she knows foreign languages. That’s a great asset”. Regarding the 2027 Milan municipal elections, Confalonieri commented: “Milan is also radical chic; the city centre votes left. Mario Calabresi could make it, but certainly if there were a candidate further to the left, I’m thinking of Pierfrancesco Majorino, he would have an even better chance”.
