Milan, 20 August (LaPresse) – “I wish to express my deepest thoughts of concern and solidarity to the residents of the historic city of Taranto – guardian of a historical, cultural and artistic heritage of inestimable value – who have recently had to face dramatic challenges relating to employment and health, economic development and quality of life: these aspects of their situation constitute both a problem and a national commitment.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the *Quotidiano di Puglia* to be published tomorrow. “The choice of Taranto as the venue for an international event such as the Mediterranean Games demonstrates the role the city plays within the Republic. My hope is that, starting with these Games, Taranto will once again ‘embrace the future’,” concluded Mattarella.
