Rome, 27 July (LaPresse) – “120 law enforcement officers who have been injured deserve to see the institutions present. That is why we are here this morning with the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, to say that the State is here, and has no intention of backing down.” So said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video during her visit to Val di Susa. Meloni said she had wanted to visit the construction site attacked by protesters on Saturday “to offer not only solidarity but also a visible presence to these public security officers, who are forced to man this site 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, at an exorbitant cost to the public, because of this alleged dissent. And also to show our support for those working here – the labourers, the contractors, the technicians, the engineers – people who roll up their sleeves and see their work destroyed from one day to the next. We are here for them too,” she adds.
