Rome, July 23. (LaPresse) – The Chamber resumed its examination of the bill converting, with amendments, Decree No. 108 of 26 June 2026, containing ‘urgent provisions on sport, for the holding of major events and the effectiveness of identity documents’. The Chamber, after the amendment concerning the obligation to use a cap for children under sixteen in public or private swimming pools intended for a public user was withdrawn (‘measures for the prevention of the risk of hair entrapment in swimming facilities’), voted and unanimously approved (244 votes in favour) the proposed amendment providing for the closure of systems with non-compliant intake vents. The amendment received a favorable opinion from the government, but despite unanimous consensus among the groups, the opposition made several interventions in the Chamber to raise concerns about how the amendment was ultimately written. “Unfortunately, this amendment will not be decisive, it will not provide anything to ensure safety. Among other things, he also leaves out private swimming pools, as if there should be no safety in one’s own pool and one could die freely sucked into a big mouth”, the words of the M5S MP, Gilda Sporiello, with whom Luana Zanella of Avs has joined. Ilenia Malavasi (Pd) also expressed her opinion on the issue: “Of course, we cannot disagree with this amendment because the principle of safety is sacrosanct, but it is an amendment that has many weaknesses, it is a very general measure. There is nothing innovative about it. Checks can already be done in swimming pools today, no amendment is needed to do further checks. And swimming pools, of course, should already have their buttons safely”. The agenda is now scheduled for consideration, followed by explanations of vote and a final vote on the measure.
