Rome, May 31 (LaPresse) – “On the occasion of the 73rd national gathering in Lignano Sabbiadoro, I wish to extend greetings to the feathered infantrymen in service and in retirement, who celebrate an identity linked to Italy’s history with unchanged enthusiasm and deep attachment to the values of the Italian Republic. From the historic deeds of the Risorgimento to today’s operational theaters, the Bersaglieri confirm very high professionalism, offering in international missions and in support of national security a valuable contribution that confirms them as a key element of the military instrument.” This is stated in the message sent by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to the President of the National Bersaglieri Association, Army Corps General Giuseppe Nicola Tota. “In the year marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Friuli earthquake, I renew my praise for the commendable work of the Association in connecting generations and preserving a precious heritage of values, in grateful memory of the generous dedication and humanity with which the Bersaglieri distinguished themselves in providing assistance to the affected populations at the time,” he adds. “In paying a moved thought to the fallen of the Corps, whose sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Homeland remains a fundamental ethical reference for those who today proudly wear the crimson flames, I pay respectful homage to the Banner of the Association that brings them together and represents them. To all participants go my warmest wishes for the success of the event, in the awareness that the affection of the national community will continue to accompany the passage of the band and the commitment of every Bersagliere.”
