Rome, 27 May (LaPresse) – The PD, M5S and AVS have called in the Chamber of Deputies for a statement from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni regarding the case reported by the newspaper ‘Il Domani’ concerning anti-Semitic remarks written in a chat group of Fratelli d’Italia leaders in Trento. ‘In recent years, Meloni has quite rightly, also in her current role, addressed an issue that I believe is dear to us all, namely the fight against anti-Semitism,’ said Democratic Party MP Debora Serracchiani. ‘She has also done so by taking significant stances. And so we ask ourselves how the Prime Minister can tolerate the fact that there are still people within the Fratelli d’Italia party who hold important institutional roles and are involved in the party’s coordination, people who, as we have learnt from ‘Il Domani’, used terms in a chat that are, to say the least, anti-Semitic. I urge my colleagues, particularly those from Fratelli d’Italia, to read these phrases, which are truly crude, violent and anti-Semitic; in a party that often flies the flag of the fight against anti-Semitism, it should somehow have the courage to expel these people.”
