Iran, Supreme Defence Council: ‘Unilateral actions undermine efforts to tackle common challenges, including on nuclear weapons’

Rome, 13 March (LaPresse) – The Supreme Defence Council “has noted with concern that the crisis in the international order, centred on the UN, with the proliferation of unilateral initiatives, is weakening the multilateral system even in the face of common challenges such as the genuine security concerns linked to the risk of Iran developing nuclear weapons, those relating to the security of Israel and its citizens, and the condemnation of the Tehran regime and its inhumane repression”. This is stated in a press release from the Quirinale. “In the current climate of instability – irresponsibly triggered by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine – with the gradual erosion of peaceful international coexistence, the weakening of multilateral institutions and the numerous violations of international law, Italy is committed to pursuing and supporting every effort that brings the path of negotiation and diplomacy back to the forefront. The Council, in full compliance with Article 11 of the Constitution, expresses grave concern at the proliferation of conflicts, particularly in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East, where our vital strategic interests are at stake. Attacks on civilians, of which children are all too often the victims, as in the case of the massacre at the school in Minab, are always unacceptable,” the statement further reads.
