Ukraine, Meloni to Zelensky: ‘Italy will maintain a leading role in reconstruction’

Rome, 5 March (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which she ‘renewed Italy’s closeness to the Ukrainian nation, assuring him that Italy will continue to play a leading role in the country’s reconstruction process’. This was reported in a statement issued by Palazzo Chigi. ‘The conversation allowed for an in-depth exchange of views on the progress of the process to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and on the next steps to be taken, also in light of current developments in the crisis in the Middle East,’ the statement continued. The two leaders reiterated how, especially at this stage, it is essential for European and American partners to be united in their views and to recognise Europe’s contribution to the peace process, the outcome of which affects fundamental European interests and is crucial for the stability and security of the continent. President Zelensky took the opportunity to thank Italy once again for sending emergency supplies to support the Ukrainian energy sector.”
