Iran, Boccia (PD): ‘Meloni flees Parliament’

Rome, 5 March (LaPresse) – “As the PD, today we must reiterate our firm stance against the Iranian regime. But we must also reiterate that Italy must take responsibility in attempting to stop the military escalation. Our unified resolution is a positive development. But today, the government will ask us to make commitments. On what basis is it asking us to do so? We need to know the context in which this commitment is being requested. For now, our government is responding by welcoming and endorsing Trump’s decisions. The truth is that Giorgia Meloni is running away from Parliament: this morning she spoke in an interview but refused to come to Parliament. We are not at war, but the consequences of the war that is setting part of the world ablaze are entering the lives of our families and businesses. Energy costs are rising, bills are rising, fuel prices have skyrocketed. With a bill decree that has already become worthless. I believe it is only right that Giorgia Meloni should come to Parliament to explain the Italian government’s strategy. For now, Italy is a helpless spectator, unfortunately together with Europe: but we need to know the framework within which the government is operating, what it is doing to defend Italian and European interests, and what measures it will put in place to protect families and businesses against rising energy costs’. This was stated by the president of the PD senators, Francesco Boccia, who spoke at the PD group meeting before the communications from Ministers Tajani and Crosetto to the Chambers.
