Askatasuna: Renzi, break ties with those who justify violence or the centre-left will not win

Rome, 1 February (LaPresse) – ‘The squalid and criminal attack on the Turin police poses a major problem for the radical left. If we do not sever all ties with those who justify violence, we will never win.’ So says Matteo Renzi, who returns to social media to discuss the violence at the Askatasuna march, adding: “It is not enough to condemn the behaviour of individuals: we need to distance ourselves from certain circles that wink at violent people, as Turin’s chief prosecutor, Lucia Musti, has clearly explained. Also because with Giorgia Meloni in government, there is less security than four years ago. The right wing talks about security and issues a decree a month, but it is failing on this issue: students are being stabbed at school, as in La Spezia, young people are being killed at stations, as in Bologna, and police officers are being beaten up, as in Turin. The left must be much clearer in attacking security issues. And to do so, it needs to be made clear that yesterday’s events in Turin were not the actions of comrades who made a mistake, but of terrorists who must be severely punished.
