Tokyo (Japan), 15 January. (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Japan at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport for the second leg of her official mission to Asia. The Italian delegation was welcomed by Japan’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arfiya Eri, and Italy’s Ambassador to Japan, Gianluigi Benedetti. The aim of the visit to Japan is to strengthen political dialogue and economic, industrial and technological cooperation between the two nations. Tomorrow, at the official residence of the Japanese Prime Minister (the Kantei), Meloni will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The two leaders will adopt a joint declaration elevating bilateral relations between Italy and Japan to the level of Special Strategic Partnership and containing a series of concrete commitments to accelerate the implementation of the Italy-Japan Action Plan 2024-27. The bilateral meeting will also address key foreign policy issues (security and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, and cooperation in Africa). On Saturday, before leaving for Seoul (the last leg of her mission to Asia), Meloni will meet with the heads of major Japanese companies at the Italian Embassy, with whom she will exchange views to encourage new industrial partnerships and further investment in Italy.
