Van Der Beek auctions off “Dawson’s Creek” memorabilia to pay for cancer treatment

Turin, Nov. 13 (LaPresse) – Actor James Van Der Beek has decided to auction off memorabilia from his hit 1990s teen drama “Dawson’s Creek” to help pay for cancer treatment. The 48-year-old has teamed up with Propstore to auction off clothing and props from the set. Among them are also some items from his 1999 film ‘Varsity Blues’. According to People, the memorabilia will go on sale in early December. Up for grabs is a necklace that Van Der Beek’s character, Dawson Leery, gave to his girlfriend, Joey Potter, played by Katie Holmes. It is expected to fetch $52,800. The actor told People that he “feels a little nostalgic,” but is ready to part with the items: “I’ve kept these treasures for years, waiting for the right moment to do something with them, and with all the recent unexpected twists and turns that life has presented me with, it’s clear that the moment is now.” The actor’s former “Dawson’s Creek” castmates, including Holmes, Michelle Williams (Jen Lindley), and Joshua Jackson (Pacey Witter), reunited in September to honor him. They participated in a live reading of the series’ pilot episode to raise money for F Cancer. Van Der Beek announced his cancer diagnosis in November 2024, after a tabloid learned of his private battle with the disease. He decided to share his story by publicly telling his story: “It’s cancer… Every year, about two billion people worldwide receive this diagnosis. And I am one of them,” he wrote on Instagram. The actor revealed that he had planned to share his journey to “raise awareness.” “That plan had to be changed early this morning when I was informed that a tabloid was going to break the news,” he said. The actor, a father of six, decided to speak out before news of his colorectal cancer broke in the press, as some of his friends and family were unaware of his illness.
