Rome, Oct 23 (LaPresse) – “Without changes in the UN governance mechanisms, there is a risk that many nations will stop seeing it as the place where common goals can be built. In truth, the criticisms mainly concern the UN’s actual ability to intervene during conflicts and armed clashes, while there is widespread recognition of the excellent objectives achieved by the entire UN system, with its agencies. The ongoing debate about UN reform is welcome and necessary. The world is obviously no longer what it was in 1945. New challenges, new actors, and new protagonists have long emerged, and the UN must adapt to these changes, while preserving the value of the San Francisco Charter.”
This is what President Sergio Mattarella said in an interview with La Voce di New York on the occasion of the UN’s 80th anniversary.
