PD, Bonaccini: “Do I feel distrusted? Be careful not to fall into a self-referential debate”

Rome, Sept. 19 (LaPresse) – “I am very calm, very serene. And I repeat, fortunately we are a party that is not a barracks, but where everyone can voice their opinion.” This is what PD President Stefano Bonaccini said on the sidelines of ‘Fenix’, the Gioventù Nazionale festival in Rome, when asked about the situation within the party’s internal minority ahead of the ‘Energia Popolare’ meeting, led by the MEP, and the upcoming national PD meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

“Do the reformists who think we have too little influence within the party make a mistake? I didn’t say that. I said that every opinion is respectable. I say that if you want to see weight and representation, looking at the congress to assert it means not understanding who the candidates are and the numbers. We called the national meeting when it was possible to do so; it could certainly have been called earlier. That said, this is always an internal debate among us,” he emphasized.

“If you ask me if anyone asked me about trust or distrust this morning, no one did. And the people I meet around, they all ask me about healthcare, schools, work, and business. We must be careful not to fall into a completely self-referential debate, which even I in the past, after losing elections, always used to ask to expand… because we come from years where we got 18% in 2018 and 19% in 2022. We do not come from years when we won or almost won the general elections.”

“It’s a debate that is very good for journalists. I think little for the real country,” Bonaccini concluded.
